BBC Photographic Library
Aside from its sound archive and television archive, the renowned British media organization also has its photo library which it considers as one of its “most valuable assets.” Containing some 10 million images from the over 80-year history of BBC, the library is also a history of the modern world as documented by the broadcasting giant. These images are stored as photographs, transparencies, negatives and prints and are currently being transformed into digital format for easy archiving and distribution. The photo library is used by the people of BBC – producers, journalists, publicists and graphic designers. But images from the library are also available for commercial clients for use in books, magazines, newspapers and other publications.
