The BPPA was created in 1984 by UK press photographers with the goal of establishing ethical, technical and creative standards within the news photography profession. Members come from newspapers, magazines and photo agencies. The official BPPA site presents galleries of members showcasing a selection of their works. There is also a section on photographic projects which the BPPA has conducted since 2003. There are also written features and a search directory for BPPA freelance photographers. Other activities of the association include consulting with sectors like professionals and industry suppliers, holding exhibits, and publishing various materials containing works of members.
